Kempenfelt Quilters' Guild first met in May 18, 1994 for an organizational meeting after a notice was posted by Benita Skinner and Sheila Nollert.  Simcoe County Quilters' Guild had been long established in Barrie as an afternoon guild, but there was a need for an evening guild to allow more working women to participate.  Eighty-two members joined the first year.  The first regular meeting was held on September 15, 1994 at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Worsley Street, Barrie, Ontario.  In November, 1998, KQG moved their regular meetings to Grace United Church on Grove Street due to increasing membership and a conflict with the Out of the Cold program at St. Andrews.  In 2008, meetings moved to the Army Navy Air Force Club.

In the fall of 1994, a challenge went out to members to design a logo for KQG.  In January, 1995 a Basket block was chosen.  The block was designed by Chris O'Neil and made by JoAnn Gault.
