Just in case you were wondering…or Shopping!

Hello, everyone

I thought it might be a great idea to share the fabric requirements for this year’s Block of the Month quilt.

Sashes and Borders

I always seem to take a picture of my feet! Finished with sashing.

The finished quilt size, using 3″ unfinished (2 1/2″ finished) sashing and border, is 47″ x 62″. I used 5 different solid colours. I purchased 1/2 yard of each colour and 1 + 1/2 yards of the white background fabric. I used almost all but a few random strips to make this quilt top. There is no room for errors in these measurements.

You could easily use fat quarters (approximately 9-10) rather than fabric off the bolt, and of course, a layer cake would work as well but be careful with those larger blocks, especially Hot Cross Buns!

These measurements are meant as a suggestion ONLY. You may want to purchase 10% more just in case.

Alternate Blocks

However, should you choose to finish your block with an alternate block, such as the hour glass, you will require at least twice as much background and focus fabric. I would strongly suggest using two-colours for this option. I am quite sure I used 8-9 different black and white prints in this one! I would love to see this in blues and yellows or red and whites! The finished quilt size is 72″ x 72″.

Hope this helps. Happy shopping and happy quilting.

See you on Thursday! I will have all of my quilts with me 🙂

Kathleen
